okay, yellow diamond hasn't actually done anything to it, but she's sitting on top of it and she's evidently feeling particularly radiant today. the kind of radiant her pearl would likely take about six hours to properly introduce! unfortunately, yellow's pearl isn't here and she's been doing, stars forbid, her own basic tasks that need doing. yellow has a bubble floating above her hand that she seems to be considering with great interest when she hears her fellow diamond approach and stands up, hopping off the van.

(she made sure that her heels didn't scuff the paint or dent the roof.)

as always, she gets right to it, not needing to bother with any small talk or greetings:] I would like your advice on something.

[There are many unexpected things happening, yes. For one, Rose Quartz hadn't thought there would be any visitors waiting for her. The moment she spots Yellow sitting on the roof of her now-yellow van, her hold on her stack of hamburgers tightens. Because yes, she comes bearing hamburgers. Seven of them, all packed up in little boxes and cradled in her arms. Even knowing that Yellow means her no harm anymore, a mild coldness radiates off her; a response to reflexive intimidation.

But then Yellow jumps down and speaks, and Rose blinks.]

[she nods, projecting a datapad from her gem next to her bubble. with a fluid sweep, yellow splits it into several. if rose looks at them, she might notice they're a bunch of notes on the technology of verens, both working and ancient defunct cores.]

I am going to make a comm device. Peridot has agreed to help. However... [she points at one of the pads, one that has some wiring images on it.] It'll be faster if there are more people working on it. With more experience of the technology here.

I don't... [she pauses, pinches her nose.] I know I'm not the best at talking to people. I'm not sure... how to ask. Without putting people off it.

[Rose does indeed sneak a peek at the data pads, her eyebrows raising. She doesn't know all too much about technology, so most of what she sees is gibberish. After a moment of attempting to process it, she takes a few steps closer to the van and sets down her hamburger boxes there. She can always pile them into the back of the van later.]

So... You want my help with writing a task for the task board? Or maybe with a fun message for the telepathy network?

[she glances at the hamburger boxes, some interest in her expression, but ultimately yellow diamond does what yellow diamond always does: focus on the task at hand and ignore everything else that isn't immediately relevant.

I believe a telepathic message would be able to alert and gather people faster. Those with the relevant interest will respond immediately, wouldn't they? I know it mustn't be during the night... [stupid organics needing their stupid sleep... yellow's not entirely incapable of all this, she is being persnickety. she also might... just want to do something with pink that's productive. maybe? she's not sure herself.] Why fun?

[Similarly, it's just like Yellow to consider the fastest, most efficient means. Rose shakes her head, biting her bottom lip in hopes of fighting off another smile- and failing. She's never been the one to explain something to her fellow Diamonds, it was always the other way around. What an odd role reversal it is.]

Because you're asking for their help, not demanding it. The key to getting cooperation from organics is to keep a lighthearted, casual tone. It gets them interested and encourages them to step forward.

A colorful- [She can't even make it through the entirety of that concept before the surprise wears off and she bursts out into booming laughter. Her amusement causes the ground to shake a bit. The laughter can't even be put into letters. It's just... laughter, up until it dies down again and she can speak.]

N-No, no no! It's not like that! If you want to offer them a reward, you could offer them money, but... You don't need to do something like that. You just need to be nice to them. Maybe tell a joke. Like I said, a fun message.

[she feels like she should be offended at pink laughing at her like that... but all she manages to do is look away for a brief moment, her cheeks momentarily turning a shade darker.]

I've got it. Please lend your assistance. [she holds her hands up for a moment. then raises her eyebrows.] This is not an elec-trick!

[you know, despite all the colonies yellow has set up and all the impressive achievements she's been lauded for... yellow's never actually looked as proud of herself as she does in this moment. not to pink, anyway.]

[Now Rose is laughing all over again. Is it because Yellow's joke was really good or really bad? Truthfully, it's because Yellow tried at all, but... Shhhh... Let's just pretend it was a good joke, so Yellow will be encouraged to develop her sense of humor even further.]

That... That was good! I like it! And I'm sure if you use a tone like that, people won't find your message... shocking.

[she snorts, muttering something that sounds suspiciously like blue likes my wordplay.]

And you're certain that offering a reward incentive isn't the way forward? I have noticed a lot of them playing with balls...

[...yeah, she was dead serious about that.]

[She snorts into her fist, just for a second, then shakes her head.]

I made that same mistake once. ...Well, it wasn't with colorful balls, but the same thought of rewarding them. It's just that humans are... Well... [She trails off for a moment, because putting these sort of sentiments into words is hard.] Unique. You can't just assume every human wants the same thing. You would have to get to know them first and give them gifts based on what you learn.

Of course it wouldn't be easy...

[she pinches her nose, exhales.]

Pi--ah, Rose, would you like to work with me on this? I wouldn't... dislike it.

[That... sure is a question. Rose blinks, her lips parted in a silent 'oh'.]

You really want my help with a project? Not just my advice, but actual... work help?

[she nods.]

It's been so long, hasn't it? [...has it?] Now that... I believe I know what I was doing wrong, it's something we could do. Now that... you're here, and I'm here. And you're not shattered, and I'm not shattered...

[gee, yellow, is something bothering you?]

[Rose laughs again, but this time with a very awkward and hollow strain to it.]

Ahahaa... That's right! We're both... not shattered...! Yes! Let's work together!

[she claps, though it's clear she's actually aware that her comment was an awkward one. yellow dissipates the datapads (sucks them back into her gem or whatever the hell they do) and clomps around the van, crouching to look at the hamburgers. seems like she's not leaving just yet.]

I, ah, had another question for you. A harder one. For both of us. I think.

[Rose's gaze follows Yellow's movements and she frowns when the diamond crouches down before the hamburgers. The first question to dawn on her is whether Yellow has tried eating yet, and if so, whether she wants a hamburger. Rose would gladly let her have one!]

Oh? And what would that question be?

[she hasn't, and it horrifies her, thanks. yellow is quiet for a few minutes longer-- this is...

she doesn't know what to ask. this is still so surreal. maybe asking this is a way to punish herself.]

What did you... do on Earth? After the war ended.

[Oh. That is not the lighthearted question Rose had been hoping for. She draws in a deep breath, knowing that she shouldn't be too upset about how the war had ended. What the other Diamonds had done had been unforgivable, but then... She'd done quite a few unforgivable things as well. At least the others have the decency to fix things in the future.]

Well, I- We, the remaining Crystal Gems and I... We attempted to clean up the mess Homeworld had left behind.

[she nods without comment-- that one doesn't really need much more said about it.]

Truth be told, I'm quite surprised the planet managed to recover from the damage at all.

Oh, Earth is very durable, as are all the creatures who live on it. No matter how much damage is done, there's usually always a way to recover.

[She smiles faintly as she says it, because the irony is not lost on her.]

Many planets are the same, given enough time...
